A Saturday night in Tel Rumeida (pictures)

We usually go on two patrols, one in the afternoon and one late at night. The reason we go at night is that this is often the the time when Israeli soldiers harass Palestinians in H2... although it happens at all times of the day.

We were returning to our apartment at the end of our patrol yesterday (July 18)... and I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story.

Israeli soldiers detain and question a Palestinian middle aged man, because his son allegedly was seen throwing rocks at a stray dog.

The son, whose left arm is broken and can be seen in a cask, walks over to his Dad after the soldiers let both of them go. How and why he was be able to go chasing after a dog and throwing rocks at it with only one working arm was left unexplained, as is why the soldiers would go after him and his father for this, even if this event actually happened. The soldiers eventually must have realized the stupidity and absurdity of their accusation and released them.

The reason the young man's father was stopped was because his son is one of our contacts, and often lets us know when the Army are harassing people. It is another form of intimidation.

A heavily intoxicated Israeli settler stops at a checkpoint outside our window, and starts haranguing the soldiers.

Trying to keep his balance, the settler stumbles around a bit but eventually managed to walk downhill and get back to the settlement.
