Youth Against Settlements (YAS), a Palestinian activist group in Hebron that organizes non-violent protests, held a meeting community activists and journalists to discuss what can be done to support the villagers if their homes are destroyed, and how to better raise awareness to not only their plight, but the plight of the Palestinian people, who are living under occupation all over the West Bank. Discussed also were methods to draw in as many people possible into the demonstrations, from the Palestinian society.
Before the meeting began, ISMers were invited for a delicious supper of stuffed grape leaves and vegetables that looked like zucchinis, hummus, pita bread and chicken. The supper was called Iftar... during Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, and the supper to break the fast is called Iftar. None of us on the Hebron team are Muslim, but we were all invited.
After the meal, we were invited to sit on the meeting. It was inspiring to see people from the community coming together and standing in solidarity with their brothers and sisters whose homes are facing demolition.
