Beit Ummar pictures

Beit Ummar is a town near Hebron, which in 2007 just had a bit less than 14,000 inhabitants. It has grape as well as cherry, plum, and olive orchards.

As you enter the town, the first thing you see is an Israeli military guard tower, and a sign in red that warns Israelis how dangerous it is to enter the village.

The warning sign is in Hebrew, Arabic, and English.

The guy with the beard who is wearing an orange cap is Koby, one of the Israeli volunteers and organizers. We met him in the village where he was with Youssef and Younes and other Palestinians involved in the demonstration. Koby comes very regularly, and told me has only felt threatened by the Israeli Army, not the Palestinians in Beit Ummar.
